Paying taxes

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)  is charged with the collection of government revenue. To enable it carry out its mandate, every natural or legal person is required to register and obtain a Personal Identification Number (PIN).This enables persons to effectively pay their tax obligation and file returns.

Local company PIN registration
A PIN is a personal identification number that enables one to do transactions with the government .Once is required to have a PIN if in employment, has a rental income, are in business, and wishes to do business with government agencies and service providers.The procedure of obtaining the PIN is almost similar but for the requirements.
Local individual PIN registration

Foreign individual PIN registration
Non-citizen investors wishing to do business in Kenya are required to obtain a Kenya Revenue Authority PIN. Proof of investment, investor permit and letter of introduction from a tax agent or lawyer are key among the required documents before issuance of the PIN certificate.

This is a certificate issued by the Commissioner of Taxes upon satisfaction that the person or business has complied with the tax obligations in respect of filing returns and paying all the tax due. It is valid for one year.
